Bolshoi Summer Intensive Australia is brought to you by the Russian Ballet International and Bolshoi Ballet Academy. The workshops will take place at the studios in Perth and in Brisbane, at the gorgeous Promenade Dance Studio. Participants will be able to spend the day dancing with some of the world’s greatest and most renowned former Bolshoi Dancers and now current Bolshoi Academy teachers, as they work towards further developing their skills and joy of dance.
This year the program will be broadcast LIVE from Bolshoi Ballet Academy Studios in Moscow with live music accompaniment for all the classes.
The Australian students will be taking classes at the studio locations in Perth and Brisbane with the Bolshoi teacher on the monitor and they will be assisted by the BBA team at the studio’s in Australia. Places are limited to 15 students per group.

IRINA PYATKINA

Bolshoi Ballet Academy Teacher & Honored Artist of (the) Russian Federation

After graduating from Bolshoi Ballet Academy in 1978, Irina Pyatkina was right away invited to join the Bolshoi Ballet Theater. At the Bolshoi Theater she worked with renowned and world famous pedagogues and rehearsal directors such as Galina Ulanova, Marina Kondratieva and Raisa Struchkova. Miss Pyatkina has danced in numerous ballets choreographed by Yuri Grigorovich and Vladimir Vassiliev. During her twenty years of work at the Bolshoi Theater, Miss Pyatkina had become a principal dancer and performed leading roles in such ballets as Giselle, Sleeping Beauty, Le Sylphides, Chopeniana, Petrushka, Swan Lake, Don Quhote and Legend of Love.

In 1998 Miss Pyatkina graduated from Russian Academy of Theater Arts where she received a highest pedagogy education. After finishing her performing career at the Bolshoi Theater, Miss Pyatkina was invited to join the faculty at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy, her alma mater. In 2005 Miss Pyatkina received a title of Master Teacher from the Bolshoi Ballet Academy where she a current faculty member of the classical ballet department. She teaches ballet technique, Pointe and repertoire classes. Miss Pyatkina had taught master classes all over the world during her bright and continuous career.

LYUDMILA ERMAKOVA

Bolshoi Ballet Academy Teacher

Lyudmila Ermakova was born in Moscow. In 1985, she was accepted into Bolshoi Ballet Academy, graduating in a class of G. K. Kuznetsova.

Upon graduation, Liudmila was invited to join The Bolshoi Theater. She had quickly rose to became a soloist.

Her career span over two decades. She had performed in Don Quixote, The Nutcracker,  La Bayadere,  Le Corsair, Les Sylphides, Raimonda,  Golden Age, Ivan the Terrible and many others.

She had been touring all over the world with Bolshoi ballet.

While performing, Liudmila had attended and graduated from the Teachers Institute of Bolshoi Ballet Academy. Her master teacher was the famous Sofia Golovkina.

In 2016, Lyudmila had become a master teacher at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy.

She is teaching ballet technique and character dance.

EKATERINA TRUNINA

Bolshoi Ballet Academy Teacher

Ekaterina Trunina was born and raised in Moscow. She had graduated from Bolshoi Ballet Academy in 1999, in the class of the ballet masters N. Revich, G. Kuznetsova and Prof. Marina Leonova.

She had joined the Stanislavsky Ballet Theater where she had become a soloist ballerina and performed with the company until 2008. During her work at the Stanislavsky Theater Ekaterina had performed numerous roles in such ballets as The Sleeping Beauty, Coppelia, The Nutcracker, Giselle and Scheherazade.

In 2003, Ekaterina had received a Teaching Degree from Bolshoi Ballet Academy Higher Education department and was promoted to a full time professorship at the Bolshoi Academy in 2014. Miss Trunina had traveled extensively to Korea, USA, Italy and Spain as a master teacher for Bolshoi Ballet Academy workshops and master classes.

Ms. Trunina specializes in teaching character technique, ballet and Bolshoi Stretch class.

SUMMER INTENSIVE LEVELS & DIVISIONS

Young Dancer Program

*This program is designed for Beginners who have between 1-4 years of ballet experience and have reached a minimum age of 9 years. Audition is required.

For dancers with basic ballet knowledge to intermediate level dancers. This program is focused on a proper foundation for classical ballet training while engaging dancers’ natural instinct to move to music.

DAILY SCHEDULE

4 DAY PROGRAM

  • 1.5 hr – Ballet Technique
  • 1.5 hr – Repertoire
  • 1.15 hr – Bolshoi Stretch/Character Dance

Observation Day for Parents: Parents will be permitted to observe classes on the final day.

*This schedule may be subject to alteration.

Advanced/Intermediate Level

*This program is designed for dancer with approximately between 4- 8 years of training in classical ballet and 1-2 years of training on pointe or pre-pointe training. Audition is required.

This Ballet Intensive is for intermediate to advanced level ballet students who have a greater understanding of ballet vocabulary and show greater technical proficiency and skill.

All dancers in this program are observed for acceptance into the full year program at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy during the intensive.

5 DAY PROGRAM

  • 1.5 hrs – Ballet Technique
  • 1.5 hrs – Variations
  • 1 hr – Bolshoi Stretch Class/Character dance

Audition Attire for filming

  • Light coloured leotards only, no black or navy permitted
  • No skirts to be worn only leotards
  • No costumes when performing Variation
  • Males to wear unitard or leotard and tights in a light colour, no black or navy.

VIDEO AUDITION FOOTAGE REQUIREMENTS

Please ensure your video audition footage complies with the requirements below.
We only accept a video link from youtube of your child’s video audition, no uploaded files.
The video can be a simple 1-3 minute recording made with a smartphone.

  • Plie combination at the barre
  • Tendu combination at the barre
  • Frappe combination
  • Grande Battement combination
  • Adagio at the centre
  • Small jumps at the centre

ADVANCED/INTERMEDIATE  LEVEL

  • Classical Variation
  • The Classical Variation can be any selected variation from the classical repertoire that is performed by a reputable ballet company
  • Variation can be performed on pointe or in demi pointe.
